What is the expostion of a novel?

No I'm not stupid I've googled it but I just can't figure out what it is. Could you give me an example of one (like use a common book and tell me what the exposition of that book is). Just not harry potter and the sorcerers stone because that is the book I'm doing and that would be cheating. Please help, thanks!
